Six Month Check In...
Its been approximately 6 months since the word has been on quarantine, how have you been managing? I don’t think anyone can say they have not been affected by this pandemic be it negative or positive. For the sake of being optimistic, let’s focus on the positive. Instead of seeing this time as being isolated from the rest of the world, view it as quality time to spend with family. As parents worked from home and children learned remotely, families were able to share more hours of the day with each other. Time otherwise spent with people we really don’t care to be around during 7-hour workdays and 6-hour school days.
Some have used this time to improve their health. Of the many excuses we have for not exercising or eating healthier meals, not having enough time is at the top. But with our 2-hour work commute now cut down to the 5 minutes it takes us to turn on the computer, time is no longer an excuse. Devoting 30 minutes a day to walk or run will surely result in weight loss, especially for those of us that were living a sedentary lifestyle prior to quarantine. When you pair exercise with a healthy diet, weight loss is inevitable. Preparing our own meals for the past 6 months has been our only option as restaurants were forced to close. This was the perfect time to be more conscious about what we are eating and make better food choices.
Quarantine is a good excuse to focus on yourself. Having time off from your regular hectic schedule is a great time to rediscover the things that bring you joy. Personal development and doing what makes you happy is always good for the soul. Use the time to reinvent yourself and live out the dreams you once had before life took you in other directions. Learn a new language. Learn a new skill. Start writing that book or start making candles. Just make sure you do at least one thing that brings you joy before things return to “normal”.
